Product Description
Book Description
Who's Who in the Classical World is an alphabetical dictionary of ancient biography covering Greek and Roman history and politics, literature, philosophy, science, and art. Its extraordinarily broad coverage is devoted entirely to real people; leaving mythological figures to be covered in a separate work.

Synopsis
This resource offers biographical entries on nearly 500 individuals of central importance from the civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome, including writers, thinkers, artists, scientists, statesmen, kings, queens, and other historical figures; mythological figures are excluded. Entries offer more than biographical information: many are short essays covering major historical and cultural themes in antiquity, centred round individuals as varied as Herodotus, Socrates, Plato, Alexander the Great, and Augustus.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good try, 28 Jun 2004
Compared to other similar works, and not forgetting its (small) size, i could say this dictionary is a good buy for people interested in history; people who read other history books and, when they fall upon a name they dont know anything aboout, care to open such a mini encyclopaedia of the ancient world and find out some things about this name...
When your reading about a philosopher or a writer(let's say Plato), you will find information on his life, his education, his works, and a small essay about how his state of mind and his (political/ethical/scientifical)thoughts changed during his life.
I'd reccomend you to buy it.
