Product Description

Product Description

Deep in the ocean lives a fish whose wishes come true! He wishes for all sorts of crazy things - a castle, a car, and even fine clothes to wear. But he is a rather foolish fish and one day he wishes to be just like all the other fish . . . perhaps this will be the one wish he wishes he never wished! The rhythmical text is great to read aloud and Korky Paul's illustrations take to you to a crazy underwater world. With its neat punchline, this is a book that children will just love to hear (and join in with) over and over again. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures & lovely to read., 25 Sep 2000
By markdodd@mcmail.com (Suffolk England) - See all my reviews
My first son had to have this book read to hime every night for a year or so. My second son (3) loves it more than any other book. This is a great book to read last thing at night, the ryhmes are soothing, the story has the sort of humour adults and children both enjoy. The pictures are not only attractive but contain a wealth of detail that kids can talk about for as long as you can bear!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good bedtime read, 12 Mar 2001
It is a very good book to read at bedtime. It has horses and cars, which makes it a winner when you have to double with son and daughter, and has a gentle lilting quality to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real find - highly recommended, 26 Sep 2005

This is a smashing story about a fish who wishes for a string of interesting things and then he wishes for something rather silly. The rhyming text has a really strong rhythm, so there's an Dr Seuss (at his best) quality to its pace. The illustrations are lovely too - pleasantly softer than some of Korky Paul's strong black ink ones. For an older child, or in a classroom, there could be a lessons drawn about being careful what you wish for and think before you act. However, it's basically a great tale beautifully presented, and one you won't mind reading over and over again.

This book was used in class (YR)for it's use of language/ poetry. The children loved its absurdity and its ' moral ' aspect led to some interesting discussions. Read more
