Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Traveller's Health caters best for those travelling in rural and isolated areas of the non- industrialised world. Most cities now have doctors, making unnecessary the sort of self-diagnosis that it assists. Containing a mine of information on virtually every health problem imaginable--from snakebites to the dangers of a bad trip--it is a book which everyone planning to travel off the beaten track in tropical parts of the world ought to have with them. Written by a selection of experts in relevant fields, the book combines an accessible style with the critical medical information that could be the difference between life and death.

A word of warning-- this book might encourage hypochondria and health obsession.

This is an invaluable book--don't leave home for far flung shores without it--but not one that the easily alarmed should read at their camp-fire-sides in a malaria-ridden swamp. --Toby Green --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review

A completely updated version of the health bible for holidays abroad. Chapter headings such as 'Animal bites; rabies; venomous bites and stings' may not be reassuring (and just wait until you've read the contents) but expert advice on the risks, how to avoid them and what to do if you didn't by a host of experts is undeniably useful, as are appendices with titles including 'Can I drink the water?' The Observer Even a sudden change in climate can be dangerous to the executive who is not physically fit. This instructive book by Dr Richard Dawood covers a wide range of country-specific health risks and includes practical advice on how to prepare for trips abroad. Business Spotlight This updated edition of Travellers' Health seems to meet all possible needs ... an excellent book, containing a wealth of information ... hard to think of a better buy. Health Matters, 51 This fourth edition ... is even more comprehensive and authoritative that its predecessors ... and can be unreservedly recommended to anyone, expert or nonexpert ... noone can compete with Dawood's guide. This gold mine of information is a fascinating read for even the armchair explorer. Travellers' Health is the authoritative guide for regular travellers. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ... unreservedly recommended to anyone, expert or nonexpert, interested in the subject ... excellent clarity and conciseness ... none can compete with Dawood's guide. This gold mine of information is a fascinating read for even the armchair explorer. Travellers' Health is the authoritative guide for regular travellers, especially for anyone planning to live and work in foreign climes. For the health professional, the volume also serves as an accessible compendium of information about unfamiliar infectious diseases and environmental hazards and their prevention. And, despite the thoroughness of its content, the book has remained slim enough to pack away in the carry-on flight bag. Emerging Infectious Diseases, Vol 9, No 4 An excellent book for the long-term or frequent traveller, and is full of practical advice for those going off the beaten track. Furthermore, it is more than adequately detailed and referenced to serve as a resource for healthcare professionals preparing and caring for travellers. Doody's Journal Review from a previous edition It is as indispensable to travel as a toothbrush. Michael Palin

In the internet age where information on disease preventention and treatment seems available everywhere online it might seem that books like this aren't needed - not so! This is a well written, information, comprehensive book which is equally well suited to the curious traveller to a medical professional. Once you've got this book you'll go here first, online second when looking for some information on any aspect of travel health. Very highly recommended.
