Product Description

Product Description

The lives of thousands of children and their families are affected by eczema, a skin disorder which can vary from a small, mildly irritating patch of skin to a much more widespread, unsightly rash. While conventional treatments have given relief to many children, others continue to suffer the physical and emotional pain associated with severe eczema. Dr Atherton is an expert in children's skin disorders, based at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. He is also involved in scientific research into the causes and treatment of eczema. In this book for parents and affected children he explains clearly the very latest in what we know about the causes of eczema and what can be done to treat it, including complementary therapies. He also gives practical advice on where to go for help and support. This book is intended for parents and children affected by eczema; GPs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent source of information on childhood eczema., 5 Jun 2001
By A Customer
Covers almost every aspect of children's eczema and the writer really relates to the parents of those affected. I strongly urge any parent who has a child with eczema to read this book. The format is clear and easy to understand and other sources of information are provided throughout. I'm a member of the National Eczema Society but they could'nt provide me with the help I felt was needed, this book did! READ IT and you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely informative, helpful and concise., 21 Mar 2001
By A Customer
This book has provided all the information I could ask for. It has helped me through the times when I could have despaired. Fortunately, for me the Eczema is not severe in either of my two Daughters.

I have tried many of the suggestions made by Dr Atherton, and true to the book, you must keep trying until you find the treatment that best suits your Child.

This book has helped me through the times of sheer despair, when I have felt that I am not doing enough to prevent the Eczema.

However, with persistence we have managed to bring it under reasonable control. Although, when a flare-up does occur, and I find myself trying to work out "Why", then I think about the book and realise that this will happen on occasion, despite my best efforts.

I would like to thank Dr Atherton for sharing his findings with us, and hope that he writes an updated version soon. I am sure that with new medical knowledge of this disease, comes new ideas for treatment and control. I know I have found a new cream just this week, which has not been mentioned, and have found it invaluable.

5.0 out of 5 stars An invaluable text for carers of children with eczema, 20 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Dr. David Atherton's book is an invaluable source of information for all who care for children with eczema. It may be considered a standard text. The level of information is fairly detailed and comprehensive, but the style is accessible to the lay reader (for whom the book is designed). Causes, triggers, treatments and management are all investigated. The tone is optimistic and the information given is dependable. An update of this most useful book, to incorporate the latest developments would be welcome but as it is, the existing edition is a superb resource for any who wish to begin to understand childhood eczema. D. Boyce. Chairman, National Eczema Society Council for Scotland
