4.0 out of 5 stars Good but repeats Ibbotson's other books, 1 Oct 2009
I enjoyed this book but so much was recognisable from Secret Countess/Countess Below Stairs and The Morning Gift. I am not sure which came first, but it was virtually the same idea and character. It's a shame as I loved Countess and Gift. Still worth a read though.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT, 30 July 2009
I think Eva Ibbotson has done an excellent job on The Reluctant Heiress, however, beware that this was previously published as Magic Flutes, so do not buy them both!!!

The Reluctant Heiress is based on the lives of Guy Farne, an orthan found on the docks atr newcastle, and Tessa, The Princess of Pfaffenstein. Guy becomes a millionaaire early in the book and buys the castle from Tessa's aunts. Meanwhile, Tessa is working backstage at an opera company in Viena. Guy brings his english fiance to the castle and hosts a grand party there for a week. Tessa's opera company are performing at the party, and Tessa and Guy meet and fall in love. Suddenly the book launches into a labyrinth of twists and turns, to come out at the end with a fairy tale happy ending.
A very enjoyable 'fairytale' style story with a Princess, Prince and a castle. Accsesible and very well written, Well done Eva Ibbotson, another excellent novel.
