Product Description

Product Description

Twelve-year-old villain Artemis Fowl is the most ingenious criminal mastermind in history. His bold and daring plan is to hold a leprechaun to ransom. But he's taking on more than he bargained for when he kidnaps Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon(Lower Elements Police Reconnaissance Unit). For a start, leprechaun technology is more advanced than our own. Add to that the fact that Holly is a true heroine and that her senior officer Commander Root will stop at nothing to get her back and you've got the mother of all sieges brewing! ARTEMIS FOWL - it's Die Hard... with fairies.

Robert Dunbar said of Eoin Colfer's first novel, BENNY AND OMAR (an instant number one bestseller in Ireland), "A wonderful book, absolutely hilarious." Eoin is a teacher and lives in Wexford with his wife and son.

4.0 out of 5 stars Top quality escapism into a world of magic, crime & fantasy, 9 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This is a book which at first glance seems to be aimed at a childrens market. Unlike the other great adult/childrens book hero, Harry Potter, the hero of this story does not pass himself off as a "goody". His bag is crime and he follows his forefathers in this endeavour, However, he does aspire to be a master criminal on a scale not seen before and utilises magic and the latest in computerism and technology in his search.

Once started this book is hard to put down as the desire to see where the plot twists and turns to next will keep readers up late and red eyed next day.

This is a sort of modern day "cowboy" book with well defined goodies and baddies and a hero (without a white hat) who is not exactly what he tries to come across as.

'Artemis Fowl' is a novel that should be sought out by anyone who enjoys a good yarn and the sequel is be eagerly awaited.

it is about a 12 year old anti hero who sets out with evil intetions and ends up a better person. thanks to the help of captain holly short and his body gaurd butler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better on audio than paper!, 25 Jun 2007

Before now I haven't used audiobooks, simply because I could never concentrate on them. Recently I decided to give this a go, as I was reading the book anyway. I found myself really surprised with how easy it was to listen to once you got into it. Adrian Dunbar's voice makes the whole book even better than if you just read it. His different voices for all the characters makes it come alive, not to mention makes you laugh in certain places too! I am now starting on the rest of these great books on audio. If you plan on reading them I suggest you do it with audio too. You will not be dissapointed.
