Amazon.co.uk Review
Pippi is an irrepressible, irreverent and irrefutably delightful girl who lives alone (with a monkey) in her wacky house, Villa Villekulla. When she's not dancing with the burglars who were just trying to rob her house, she's attempting to learn the "pluttification" tables at school, fighting Adolf, the strongest man in the world at the circus or playing tag with police officers. Pippi's high-spirited, good-natured antics cause as much trouble as fun, but a more generous child you won't find anywhere.

Astrid Lindgren has created a unique and lovable character, inspiring generations of children to want to be Pippi. More than anything, Pippi makes reading a pleasure; no child will welcome the end of the book, and many will return to Pippi Longstocking again and again. Simply put, Pippi is irresistible. (Ages 9 to 12) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Book Description
Pippi Longstocking is nine years old. She has just moved into Villa Villekulla where she lives all by herself with a horse, a monkey, and a big suitcase full of gold coins. The grown-ups in the village try to make Pippi behave in ways that they think a little girl should, but Pippi has other ideas. She would much rather spend her days arranging wild, exciting adventures to enjoy with her neighbours, Tommy and Annika, or entertaining everyone she meets with her outrageous stories.
Pippi thinks nothing of wrestling a circus strongman, dancing a polka with burglars, or tugging a bull's tail.

Generations of children have fallen in love with Pippi Longstocking. Just like Tommy and Annika, readers are instantly charmed by her warmth and sense of fun.

Astrid Lindgren's children's classic first appeared in 1945. Astrid once commented, 'I write to amuse the child within me, and can only hope that other children may have some fun that way, too.' When she was growing up, Lauren Child loved Astrid Lindgren's books. She remembers: 'I discovered Pippi when I was about eight years old and found her completely inspiring.' Known and loved as the creator of some equally feisty little girls - notably Clarice Bean and Lola - Lauren has brought her own
inimitable style to this beautifully-illustrated edition of Pippi Longstocking. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lauren Child catapults Pippi into 21st century childhood. Hurrah!, 8 Sep 2007

This review is from: Pippi Longstocking (Hardcover)
What an inspired idea! The moment I saw the cover of this I had to have a copy - Lauren Child's illustrations are the perfect accompaniment to give this timeless classic a contemporary twist. Pippi is a `girl power' heroine, a strong self-assured funky little character with her sticking out red plaits and freckle, and an honest independence of spirit and a resourcefulness you can but admire. Instead of parents, she lives with her monkey, a horse and a stash of gold! She has two good friends to whom she tells tall tales and with whom she has a lot of fun. I recently read a borrowed original to my six-year old daughter who thought it was a smashing story. This beautifully produced edition with its frequent colourful illustrations (a red-based palette, so yes you should get a copy for your boys), well spaced words, and cleanly laid out pages feels friendly enough for my daughter herself to pick it up to read and it will surely be read again and again. A triumph!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very funny book !, 25 Oct 2000
By A Customer
I read this book to be son (aged just 5) . He laughed so much that he fell off the bed! We finished the book in 3 evenings and then had to go straight back to the beginning and start again. Pippi lives on her own with no adult to impose bedtimes (or even to tell her which way up she should sleep in the bed) - surely every child has dreamed of having this freedom. My son loved the resulting element of anarchy in the book. Although various adults in the book do attempt to exert authority over Pippi she always outwits them. A child's fantasy world will be enriched and fortified by this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pippi Longstocking, 19 Feb 2003
This review is from: Pippi Longstocking (Paperback)
... It is about a girl called Pippi Longstocking. Her dad is the king of a cannibal island Pippi has never been to school and is a bit stupid Pippi is also the strongest girl in the world.

There are other characters called Tommy and Annika. They are Pippi`s friends. Pippi has a horse and a pet monkey called Mr Nelsion.

I enjoyed this book because it is very long and it is about a girl who goes on lots of different adventures.

What I did not like about this book was that some adventures were the same and a bit boring I would give this book 8/10.
