Product Description
Jack's in trouble. Big trouble. Not only is he in hospital with a leg in traction (boring) but he knows the police are coming for him. Because of an accident – a tomato-related accident – involving a supermarket pyramid and an old-age pensioner. Whoops! Jeremy Strong knows exactly what makes kids laugh, and he's on top form in this very funny detective spoof. A major rebranding and repackaging programme in 2007 will ensure there's not a child in the country who hasn't laughed their socks off with Jeremy! Rowan Clifford's illustrations add to the fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun story set in a hospital in the aftermath of a tomato-related incident!, 25 May 2007

Jeremy Strong's books are bold contemporary fun. This is a great everyday story told in the first person by Jack age 11. It's a good length chapter book with funny anecdotes intertwined in the main story and clear fresh Nick-Sharratt-esque illustrations on almost every double page. These break the text up nicely for junior readers. Accident-prone Jack broke his leg when a stationary car hit him as he cycled at speed away from the scene of an earlier accident of his making. At the `scene of the crime' a pensioner's feet poke from beneath a high pile of tins where a tinned tomato pyramid had previously stood. Lying in traction in a hospital ward and convinced the OAP can't have survived Jack is scared the police will come for him any moment. The whole book is set in the hospital which is portrayed in a very positive light. It's friendly place and Jack makes friends with the other children in the ward who have a range of ailments and reasons to be in, in particular a little girl called Maisie. All's well that ends well, and the OAP, Jack and Maisie all come through at the end of the story with flying colours. Perfect for boys and girls - smashing!
