Product Description

The story of a girl who tries to satisfy her yearning for a dog by introducing an imaginary Great Dane called Henry to the house. Her wish comes true and she is allowed a real Henry - but there's more than a hint that old Mrs Garrow, with her cackling laugh and black cat, may have been involved.

About the Author

Formerly a farmer and a teacher, Dick King-Smith is best-known for his third career as a writer. His phenomenally successful children's stories are marked by endearing humour and characters of unique depth and life. THE SHEEP-PIG won The Guardian Award and was transformed into the blockbusting film, BABE, which added hugely to his profile. Dick lives in Keynsham, near Bristol.

The story:
Janie used to have a dog called Rupert but he died of kidney failure when she was only two years old. Janie has an imaginary dog called Henry and he is a Great Dane - just like Rupert!

About the author:
Dick King Smith is a famous children's author who writes mainly terrific tales about animals. He is the creator of Babe the Gallant pig, which has been turned into a movie, Dick King Smith lives on a farm in Gloucestershire and has been writing since 1978. When I am older I will do a PHD on him, hopefully, because he is one of my favourite authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars For people who like funny stories and dogs., 5 Jul 2009
A Kid's Review
The story is about a girl called Janie who wants a dog but when she was little she had a dog a Great Dane puppy but it died when Janie was only 2. He died of kidney failure and his name was Rupert.

Janie finds Rupert's old collar and lead then pretends that she has a dog but it really is invisible.

I think it is a good story because it is really funny and the book tells you some one might be a witch in the story.

My favorite characters are Janie and Miss Garrow. I like Janie because she is funny and nosey too. Also she reminds me of me because I love dogs and so does Janie.

I recommend the book to people who like funny stories and dogs.
