3.0 out of 5 stars a good read but disappointing, 24 Aug 2008
By Kate (england) - See all my reviews
I really enjoyed Getting rid of Matthew and had high expectations of this. It started fine with Stephanie seeing a text that she shouldn't and finding out husband James was leading a double life. This set in motion several acts of revenge by wife and mistress on poor unsuspecting James. This was quite amusing but the story lacked the sharp wit and humour of the previous book and James turned out to be a bit pathetic . Stephanie's new boyfriend did not spice things up at all and the story petered out very predictably. I have still got Jane Fallon's first book as I will read it again but I can't see myself reading this a second time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but was expecting a twist..., 1 Sep 2008
This book started off really well, the characters were believable and the plot was interesting enough to get me hooked. When the plans for revenge were unfolded between the two women, I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to see what they were going to do to him and with each new drama, I was drawn further and further in as James' life unfolds dramatically around him with seemingly no idea who's behind it all. But then something odd happens, it's almost as if the author had a change of heart half way through because the story goes from this, to a less dramatic story of a woman getting over the break up of her marriage and moving on to a new relationship. The one "big event" that was planned early on in the book (that I was really looking foward to reading) doesn't even go ahead.

But I kept reading as I had began to care about the characters and what happens to them all in the end...and secretely I was hoping for some big twist at the end and was disapointed when this never happened.

But that said, it was a good 'light read' but I wouldn't read it more than once.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terribly over hyped, 22 Sep 2008
A very disappointing read. The characters were completely unengaging and unconvincing; I couldn't really have cared less what happened to any of them. And it takes quite some skill to make an 8/9 year old child so unappealing. The dialogue was sparse and unconvincing, interspersed with what felt like interminable, dull narrative - much of which I ended up skim reading. Basically, if the author wasn't who she is, I doubt she'd even have got this published, let alone hyped so much! I bought this on a 3 for 2 (so basically free, right?) - and I still felt cheated.
