4.0 out of 5 stars a good buy, 21 April 2002
By A Customer
At first I wasn't too enthusiastic about reading short stories because i find they never really get anywhere. The advantage Fleming had when writing his short stories, however, was that we already knew his hero and the other recuring characters. So for a fan of Bond literature, I would think that this was a great buy. The stories themselves are good, after reading each one you will feel that a lot more has happened than it actually has, mainly because in these stories nothing is wasted. Fleming gets you through the adventures, still developing a good plot, without any excess. Fortunatly, the brilliant Bond/M parts are still there. My favorite is the title story (for your eyes only) which starts in Jamaica where Fleming is most at home. The descriptions and mood set by the author are always perfect, evoking the images he intended in your mind while capturing differing characters that really have depth to them. Perhaps, you don't get quite as involved as in the full length novels (which is why i only give it four stars), but For Your Eyes Only still give you that Bondian feel that can only come from Fleming himself. Buy it.
