3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm, 21 Feb 2006
By A Customer
The country profile at the start of the book is interesting, but some of the information ie regarding currency is out of date; do not take dollars to Cuba! The Cuban convertible peso has been the currency for tourists since 2004, yet this book was re-printed in 2005... I consulted this book a lot in Havana recently, but several things were shut, perhaps due to it not being high season, but Time Out does not mention this could be the case. In general an ok book, but do not take its word for everything.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read, full of practical advice, 10 Jan 2005
On the whole I dislike travel guides and find them hard to read, but this was great. Lots of useful information written in a interesting and readable way. Good honest advice.

1.0 out of 5 stars Out of date, 26 Jan 2007
By Brian Clark (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
For a guide book supposedly revised and updated in 2005, this book is hopelessly out of date. As of November 2004, the Amercan dollar ceased to be legal tender in Cuba and a 20% conversion fee is levied on any dollars exchanged. All transactions are now carried out in CUC's (peso convertibles). Any tourist with Amercan dollars will be at a significant disadvantage. If the book is out of date in this respect it is probably out of date in other areas as well. A much better buy is is the Thomas Cook HOTSPOTS CUBA guidebook which, although much smaller, does have up to date information on currencies. Also try the web site Casa Particular Cuba which has more information including maps and currency exchange rates.

4.0 out of 5 stars our best guidebook for havana
I have recently returned from Cuba. We took with us the footprint and lonely planet guides and found the time out guide to be the most useful by far out of the three for Havana.

The news/current issues pages in the beginning make good reading but as a guide book is more advertising than anything else. Read more
