Ageing now - the book was issued in 1972 - this is still an intriguing collection of essays. Containing works by Goffman, Bernstein, Labov, and many more, this is an offering of scholary analyses of the role of language within its social context, exploring Saussure's distinction between language and speech (langue and parole). Stimulating reading.
