5.0 out of 5 stars A superb architectural guide to a still undiscovered county, 19 Mar 2004
By A Customer
Durham - city and cathedral, world heritage site, Auckland Palace, Raby Castle, Saxon Escomb (England's oldest intact church), plus Jarrow and Monkwearmouth, the art-nouveau gem of St Andrews at Roker, the World's oldest extant Methodist chapels in the Durham dales and the oldest railway architecture at Causey and Darlington, all are contained within the pages of this guide, plus many hundreds of other less-celebrated buildings which together make up Durham's heritage.

As invaluable as every other guide in the 'Pevsner' series, a must have for all architectural enthusiasts setting off to explore the still largely unknown territory of County Durham and an eye opener for native Dunelmians.
