5.0 out of 5 stars From the Introduction........, 26 Dec 2006
Each year there is less of our countryside for wildlife. Many hedges are gone, and the intricate web of wildlife which they harboured is no more; deadly pesticides ensure that once common weeds will no longer flourish, and many harmless invertebrates alas have died alongside the harmful pests.

What we hope to do in this book is to suggest ways in which people can turn part or all of their gardens into a wildlife sanctuary: a place which will, for example, support nettles, encourage insects and offer a `supplementary habitat' for some of our threatened wildlife species. We hope that with the present vast destruction of large tracts of our countryside, you will consider doing your bit to offer a `place for wildlife'
