Product Description

Product Description

This high-spirited poetical fantasy, based on Norwegian folklore, is the story of an irresponsible, lovable hero. After its publication, Ibsen abandoned the verse form for more realistic prose plays.

About the Author

Henrik Ibsen was born at Skien in Norway in 1828. He was one of the earliest writers to dramatise the individual's alienation from society. Although never fully appreciated during his lifetime, he has since come to be recognised as one of the greatest dramatists and the 'Father of Modern Drama'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cooked up Al Dante, 15 Jan 2000
By A Customer
Ibsen unleashes his witty imagination in his book, marking his great transition from poetry to prose. Not unlike Dante's Divine Comedy the political satire underlines the author's discontent with the social environment of his time. The style and plot line may seem a little uneven at times (to me anyway). It uses images and references to mythological tales to express its deeper purpose very cleverly. it reads like a charm, you can't put it down and it is perhaps the most enjoyable of Ibsen's writings. (the ending is exceptional).-Reg Dury.

4.0 out of 5 stars New version of Peer Gynt, 9 Jul 2009
By S. Barrett (From Dublin Ireland, live in London UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is such a fantastic play. I was doing my MA in acting college and adaptations was what it was about. I read the original Ibsen version and loved it, I'm a fan of Ibsen anyway, but this is such a unique play. I ordered Colin Teeven's version and luckily it came to me quite quickly, and loved it also! I highly recommened it, if you're a lover of Ibsen, Colin Teeven, any plays of the weird and wonderful, and you don't mind a bit of bad language. Truely Brilliant.
