5.0 out of 5 stars A great read, 8 Dec 2003
By Chloe (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Run, Zan, Run (Paperback)
Run Zan Run is probably my favourite book by Catherine Macphail. Although all her books are well written, it is a book harder to put down than her previous one, Missing.
Katie is being silently bullied and feels as though she has no one to turn to for help until she meets Zan one day when Ivy’s gang cornered her. But when Katie tries to help this apparently homeless girl who lives in the town dump, she doesn't realise that her good intentions were with bad consequences. Zan has had a dark past of troubles and now Katie had stirred it up to the present but not knowing what was the truth.
I enjoyed this book because it never seemed to grow dull and the way in which it was described was life like. I think that it was created more interesting by having two main problems in it. All the characters in the book all seemed to have very strong characters, like Katie was the timid, afraid and bullied girl with good intentions and Zan was the tough, streetwise kid but soft inside. This book shows a good view from a bullied person, how there seems to be no way out and everyday seems like a fight for survival. It shows how the victim of bullying feels when a teacher just dismisses the matter and accuses the victim of attention seeking rather than trying to resolve the matter. It also shows how Katie dealt with her bullies in the end.
This book is a very thought provoking book and is well worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic, 17 Feb 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Run, Zan, Run (Paperback)
This book is really fantastic. I recommend it to everyone especially to teens who are planning to run away from home, or to teens that are being bullied. It teached us a valuable lesson, don't be shallow when meeting new people who are different to us, because its mostly those people who help us in a time of need
