Product Description

Product Description

This is the story of a little girl named Fern who loved a little pig named Wilbur and of wilbur's dear friend, Charlotte A. Cavatica, a beautiful large grey spider who lived with Wilbur in the barn. With the help of Templeton the rat, who never did anything for anybody unless there was something in it for him, and a wonderfully clever plan of her own. Charlotte saved the life of Wilbur, who by this time hada grown up to be quite a pig. Published over fifty years ago, with original illustrations by Garth Williams, Charlotte's Web has become an all-time favourite children's story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Desert Island Book, 22 Jun 2003
By A Customer
I read this as a child, many many times, and recently rediscovered it with my 7 year old boy. It's a beautiful story, beautifully written. It's about life, death, growing up, the passing of seasons, but mostly about friendship. The end is quite sad, but still hopeful--so do not avoid for fear of tears. Compulsory bedtime reading for all parents with children between 6-10 yrs.

5.0 out of 5 stars An inspiring story, 26 Jan 2003
By Sarah Allaway (Devon, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This is probably the best book I ever read as a child. A truly heart-warming story about a pig with a confidence problem!
I truly adored Wilbur's relationship with Charlotte and still adore reading this book today.
The story will bring you tears, happiness and sheer joy!
The book is based on Wilbur the pig who has been brought up by Fern, a very loving child who spoils him rotten! As Wilbur grows, he realises that he is being bred to be eaten! With Charlotte and the rest of the farm animals, the race is on for Wilbur to save his bacon!!

I hope you enjoy this wonderful story as mucha s I did!

5.0 out of 5 stars A treasure, 12 Jun 2004

I'll always keep Charlotte's Web as a memory of my childhood because it is such an onnocent and yet heartbreaking story. This book showed me loyalty and the beauty of friendship. A much needed lesson in today's society.

Charlotte is a spider and is highly intelligent. Wilbur is a runt pig ready to be turned into Christmas dinner. Together they form an unlikely friendship and Charlotte ends up saving Wilbur's life.

A beautifully enchanting and sweet tale for all ages.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Story
Having a dual form of dyslexia I did not learn to read until later in life. Thus I never read children's books while a child. Maybe that is why I read so many still today. Read more
