Synopsis
Hurry!, whispered the house, and the grandfather clock at the heart of it beat an anxious tick. Tom opened the door wide and let in the moonlight. He was staring at what he saw outside. They had said, "Really, there's nothing to see". This book won a Carnegie Medal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Philippa Pearce's 'Time No Longer' classic deserves to be on the childhood bookcase, 4 May 2004
When his brother, Peter, contracts 'the measles', Tom has to go and stay with his uncle and aunt who have a small 'flat' and NO garden, allegedly! One evening his boredom finds him counting the chimes of the 'Grandfather Clock' down in the communual hall - he can't believe it when the clock strikes thirteen, at midnight, and sets out to find out why.
His 'ghostly' nightly adventures, thereafter, take him back to a time when the house, and seriously big garden, are owned by a Victorian family.

Noone can see Tom, except the young girl 'Hattie'.......and eventually, another character, but I won't spoil the story for you!
However I will say that there is an unexpected twist in the tale, which must surely be a unique ending for a book of this age!

Philippa Pearce's 'Time No Longer' classic deserves to be on the childhood bookcase, along with 'The Secret Garden' and 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe', in my opinion.

The book is simply too exciting, and intriguing, to put down for long!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, classic story., 1 Jan 2002
By A Customer
All children should be given the chance to read this book. It was the favourite story of my childhood. It is a beautiful, haunting evocative story of childhood, growing up, adulthood and old age. It's also sad, in a happy kind of way, if that makes sense. It's a story of life. It's beautifully written, and a haunting evocation of a place, a garden, long ago - so powerfully drawn you feel you know every area of it - the nut stubbs, the greenhouse, the meadow, the sundial wall and the stream and so forth, that it comes alive in your mind - the old fir tree, that Hatty used to like to stand under in a high wind, and feel the roots "pulling like muscles" under her feet - so wonderfully drawn you'll not want to leave it's world. It's a part of my life, forever.

This is a true classic for all time. Buy it today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible! A must read!, 28 Oct 2001
By A Customer
I found this book by mistake, It's really like the book chose me! I'm 13 and have read many books but this book is extraordinary! I've never read anything so vivid and moving, I was in tears constantly! I loved how it ended even though it was, in my opinion, almost unbearably sad and had me crying for days. I recomend this book for anyone who loves fiction, like me, and who will enjoy sitting on the ege of your seat until it's finished. I hope this review was helpful! Bye!
