5.0 out of 5 stars Slow plot helped by detailed writing., 25 Nov 1997
By A Customer
The Golden Gobblet This book's slow plot speeds up with a great deal of action near the end. Join Ranofer and his friends as they try to prove that Ranofer's half- brother Gebu and his companion Wenamon are tomb robbers and save Ranofer's future as a master goldsmith. I'll give this book a nine out of ten because it is very exciting and detailed, but I didn't give it a ten because it had a little too much detail. When I read this book I felt like I was there with Ranofer in the tomb, in the goldshop, in the thicket with Heqet and the Ancient, and in the presence of the queen. I really enjoyed the book because of this, but sometimes the author added what seemed to me to be unneccesary detail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, though not the best I have read, 20 Mar 2001
By A Customer
The Golden Goblet, by Eloise Jarvis McGraw, is a pretty good book. It takes place in Ancient Egypt. It is about a boy, Ranofer, and how he finds out that his mean half-brother is tomb robber, and what he does about it. I'm a seventh grader and I had to read it for language arts. Most people in my grade hated it, but I thought it was pretty good. It was definetly not the best I've read, but I know I would like to read it again. I recommend that you read this book. For some people, it might seem long. I think it is a good reading level for my age, though older or younger may injoy it. One thing bad is that it starts out really slow. Read this book!
