4.0 out of 5 stars Reflection of times gone by, 6 Feb 2000
By A Customer
I first read this book some 30 years ago, its memory lingered on. Then I had a chance to read it again to children, I enjoyed every word of it and so did they. The story is a good example of how books of yesteryear were written, the style of writing, the words used, description of the spivs accurately portrayed the post war years. Short easy read book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A children's book as they should be written..., 21 Feb 2001
By A Customer
One of my favourite books of all time.

When comparing the sheer quality of the writing in this book - the style, the metre, the readability - with that of the most successful childrens authors of today, one cannot help but feel disappointed with current offerings.

Have a bash at this one, it won't take long to read but every page will be a pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great childrens' book, 26 Sep 2003
By A Customer
The Otterbury Incident was a favourite book of mine as a child. But that was 30 years ago when the games the heroes played, and their freedom to roam the streets, all made sense. Life has changed so much since then that the story now seems like a historical novel, but really the key elements - adventure, friendship, and a sense of community - are still relevant today. The story can grip and affect a new generation of readers - my children - just as it affected me all that time ago.
