3.0 out of 5 stars The Circus is Coming, 12 Dec 2003
By A Customer
Peter and Santa were the most unlikely children to find with a circus, but that is what happened to them.

From the dullest possible home with a tiresome snob of an aunt who had been a lady's maid, at her death they plunged right into the life of the circus with their quite unknown uncle.

There they went to school with the other child performers. They made friends with the horses, the sea-lions, dogs and the men who looked after them.

They knew the clowns, the acrobats and the trapeze artists, with and without their make-up on.

The circus felt as if it was their home(even though it moved two or three times a week).

I really liked this book and I think you will too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous and oddly gritty, 10 Jan 2007
I think the previous reviewer was mean with the stars. This is a great book because Santa and Peter are NOT overnight sensations. They do not save the world. But they do go from being impractical wimps to good sensible kids who are competent and useful. On the way, they and we learn scads abotu circuses; harder than it looks, like most of life.

This book is a wonderful slice of good old British working life; committed artisans wiht real pride in what they do. And Streatfeild herself was not dissimlar. Every sentence is crisp, clear, and often funny.
