Product Description

Product Description

A priest with a cooler-than-thou attitude, a sexy wannabe stand-up comedienne with a grudge, a wiseguy with a bleeding heart and the dumbest hit-man in literature join forces to fantastic effect in Elmore Leonard's delicious new caper. Returning from a 'missionary position' in Rwanda, Father Terry needs to raise money for his pagan babies. What better way of doing this is there than shaking down the mob? Teaming up with fast-talking Debbie Dewey seems like a good idea, but as the wiseguys wise up and the bullets start to fly, who's fooling who? Filled with Leonard's trademark crackling dialogue and whiplash plot turns, this new novel is an instant classic from one of the most respected writers around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elmore Leonard is fantastic, 7 Oct 2003
I am an Elmore Leonard fan and rate this title among my favourites. From the genocide in Rwanda to the Detroit mafia, this book takes you on a memorable journey, heading towards the inevitable Leonard lesson in cliche-avoidance. The ending is real and satisfying.
Buy this book by Elmore Leonard, then buy all of the others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just a damn good read, 13 Dec 2000
This review is from: Pagan Babies (Hardcover)
I bought this book recently after watching Jackie Brown and Out of Sight, I enjoyed the films, and their dry humour. I knew he'd written the books the films were based on, and wondered wether it was the directors humour in the films or that of the author. I was pleasantly surprised, it was the authors.

Without giving too much away, the story involves a priest who was living in Africa, Cigarette smuggling, a woman who was recently released from prison, trying get on to the comedy curcuit, and the Pajony brothers. The story is fast paced, humourous and full of fast paced wit. Its a very enjoyable read.

On the down side its quite complicated too, I had to read it twice, but found it very rewarding. The plots has a fair few twists, mainly involving the priest.

Overall its a great book, if you like comedy, gangsters and priests.
