Product Description
Amazon.co.uk Review
Among the few books which in recent times can claim to be a phenomenon, is Paul Wilson's The Little Book of Calm. Published in 1997 in the wallet-sized format which is now so ubiquitous, The Little Book of Calm introduced to millions of readers simple methods of developing an inner centre of calm--a bulwark of quiet, purposeful strength to relieve us from the stresses of our everyday lives. There is nothing particularly new in what Paul Wilson has to teach us: his other works such as The Calm Technique and The Big Book of Calm, are imbued with lessons drawn from a cross section of mystical traditions, philosophy, psychology and Wilson's own researches into human behaviour. However, what sets Wilson apart from the crowded shelves of self-help titles is his very practical, can-do approach, coupled with a genuine sincerity--he has mastered the secrets of calm, is calm in the midst of a hectic professional, domestic and social life, and is convinced that with patience and a certain degree of focus, anyone can do and be the same. Calm for Life is the fifth of his books on calm. It's an excellent distillation of his work so far--containing a thorough description of calm; explanations as to why it's essential to have a calm centre; a step-by-step guide to developing calm; lessons on how "deep calm" can be meaningfully applied to your life; and how calm can remain a permanent feature. And that's probably the most appealing aspect of Wilson's work: it's not just inspirational but aspirational, i.e., his how-to's are achievable. Definitely one those "e-mail it to a friend" reads. I have found this book very helpful. Just reading about being calm helps you to unwind. Wilson explains clearly many time-honored techniques for stilling a fractious mind. I wasn't sure how successful I would be, but I am gaining confidence in my ability to just let go of all the stress of modern life.

The book is well-written; although I would question some of the science, the techniques are firmly rooted in well-known methods. In my limited experience, they do work!

Thanks, Paul!
