Some 300 card games from Britain and around the world are explained simply in this book. 5.0 out of 5 stars A reference for life!, 27 Oct 2000
By charles.leake@unn.ac.uk (Newcastle upon Tyne, UK) - See all my reviews
This clearly written, well structured reference to pretty much every card game in the world is a must for anyone who plays cards (or wants to know how), at whatever level.

Backgrounds, historical origins and anecdotes to the card games are provided for those interested and alternative rules or variations to the games are explained in full. I would recommend every household to have a copy! Even if only for those rainy days (a frequent occurance in the UK!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best book on card games., 30 May 2006
David Parlett has been keeping this book up to date for a long, long time now. Sadly, as I write this, it has been unavailable for some little while - if you find it, buy it! The scope of this book is simply incredible, the full gamut of card games is represented here and better still, explained with clarity. A good test of a book of card games, is its inclusion of Tarot - this family of games is not only represented by the popular French version but also by a number of others. There is a game here for every occasion and every mood. Every household should have a copy.
