1.0 out of 5 stars A very rigid approach, 29 Mar 2007
By Reader (London) - See all my reviews
I agree with the other reviews in that the author seems to have a very black and white view of drinking. I don't agree that people are born alcoholics, abusing alcohol is a negative habit that people get into during their lives for various reasons.

For those who want to cut down the amount they drink without giving up alcohol I recommend 'The Drink Less Mind Shift' and Allan Carr's 'The Easy Way to Control Alcohol', both of which recognise the shades of grey in between the heavy drinker and the teetotaller. Lots of people suceed in changing their drinking habits, I don't agree that the world is divided into 'normal drinkers' and alcoholics - it's far too simplistic a view.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book saved my life, 16 Aug 2004
By A Customer
I bought this book still telling myself that my drinking was normal and everyone drank like me (I was working in the City at the time). Although I was broadminded, I knew I was reading my own story from Chapter 1.
I was able to get my life together, and also realise that everything that I had worked for was hanging by a thread because of my compulsive need to get off my head all the time.
If you suspect that drink is causing you a problem, please please read this book. If you dont have a drink problem you'll be able to read this book cover to cover and say - that isnt me, I dont have a problem. What do you have to lose?

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for the light-hearted, 2 Aug 2005
By A Customer
From the other reviews this books has transformed lives but for me this was no use at all. A few weeks ago I was someone with concerns over the amount I drank - hardly an alcoholic - looking for some help. Alan Carr's book worked wonders for me but this ended up in the bin.
