Product Description
Hetty Longden is despatched to recover from her broken heart by looking after Great Uncle Samuel's crumbling stately home, only to find herself pitchforked into an embattled local community, car-boot sales, and the demands from rival and waiting heirs to the property.

About the Author
Katie Fforde lives in Gloucestershire with her husband and some of her three children. Recently her old hobbies of ironing and housework have given way to singing, Flamenco dancing and husky racing. She claims this keeps her fit. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book can't wait for more, 25 Mar 2004
By J. Tippet "urbanstarz" (UK) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Stately Pursuits (Paperback)
I originaly discovered Katie Fforde after buying Highland Fling and reading it in one go. I couldn't wait to read more. Katie Fford writes characters that are both lovable and belivable, they suffer their trials and tribulations just like everyone else. Her heroines are normal they have lumps and bumps and aren't all under the age of 30.Her hero's are human and come with baggage in this case a stately home and a dodgey car.I hope that if she ever sells a novel to Hollywood they won't destroy it like they did with The Beach and Animal Attraction. Stately Pursuits is a wonderfull feel good novel and I heartly recomended it to anyone that like a bit of old fashioned romance with plenty of humour

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawed? Sure - but you have to love it!, 10 Jan 2001
By A Customer
Stately Pursuits was my introduction to Katie Fforde - I've since gone on to read all by "Wild Designs". Yes, this book does follow her forumula for writing, but each of her stories has its own charm. I can't help but feel great affection for Hetty and Conner when all is said and done. It's not a "serious" book, but as far as light reading goes, it's one of the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite so far, 18 Jul 2006
This review is from: Stately Pursuits (Paperback)
This is one of the first three of Fforde's books I have read and my favorite by far.

I felt that the story was in the realm of possibility - the hero wasn't Prince Charming, but yet you still wanted he and our heroine to get together in the end.

A fun, light read, definitely recommended!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Great...But Not Terrible
I enjoyed this book although I found it very predictable (in a cozy sort of way). Hetty, Peter, Phyllis, and Connor were all engaging characters, and the story was fun. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Rather predictable story line
This mirrors her other books both in the predictability of the plot and the characters, however, the story trips along and you can not help getting embroiled in the yarn. Read more
