Product Description

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect bite sized morsels of garden wit and anecdote, 8 Sep 2008
By AlcAm (Cambridge, UK) - See all my reviews
Along with The Potting-shed Papers: From Johnny Appleseed's Apples to Sex and the Single Strawberry - Explorations of Gardens and Gardeners and More Papers from the Potting Shed a wonderfully entertaining set of witty observations, stories and personal anecdotes of garden people, history, battles and occasional defeats to nature's war on making the perfect plant, lawn and bed.

Fascinating and humorous, each chapter's handful of pages forms a contained bite size read well suited to late night indulgence before bed.

I've gone through the trio once already and now do so again with glee.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny Bones, 5 Jan 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Transplanted Gardener (Hardcover)
From Giant Vegetables, through The Booby-trapped Carrot, to Walking Trees, this is a spirited, witty volume, seen through the eyes of a novice gardener - written with an American pen.

It is a personal journey, which weaves historical facts and stories, to be enjoyed again and again - probably in one go each time...
