4.0 out of 5 stars A useful overview of Western philosophical thinking., 5 Dec 1998
By A Customer
T.L.S.Sprigge provides a useful overview of the main strands of Western philosophical thought. The eight essays are presented with academic impartiality and without giving the reader the sense that Sprigge is advocating any one view (though his own theory of existence is made plain). While Sprigge makes every effort to use plain English there is no escaping the complexity of some of the concepts that he is explaining. A friendly tip would be to disregard the order of the chapters, reading and re-reading them in different orders is more likely to result in some, if not total, enlightenment. A good start for people going beyond faith, well referenced for further reading.
