I found Susan Trott's 'The Holy Man' by sheer chance, as one is wont to do. It was lent to me by the mother of one of the children in my class, and subsequently given as a gift.

Simple and easy to read, it is at the same time insightful and though-provoking. The stream of characters waiting for the Holy Man are all looking for answers, waiting for something to happen to make sense of this experience we call life. They find their own way often enough, finding a wisdom within which they thought they needed to find from somewhere outside of themselves.

Somewhere in this little book, there are answers for everyone. More importantly, there are questions. For me, it has been one more step on an extraordinary path which began with Richard Bach's "Illusions", led me to Neale Donald Walch's "Conversations With God" and Alan Watt's "The Book", amongst many others. I can't help but draw parallels with Gibran's masterpiece, "The Prophet".

If any of the above titles ring bells with you, have a look at 'The Holy Man'.

For my part, I'd like to thank Susan Trott for saying so much, so clearly.

I travel frequently and always visit my local library to check out video books as entertainment during the trip. Every once in a while I find a real gem. This month's gem is The Holy Man by Susan Trott. It is a vignette of inspirational and funny stories about the happenings of people in modern time who spend weeks or months in line waiting to see the holy man. I plan to order several copies as a gift for friends. Also, I plan to read or listen to Ms. Trott's "Journey" book.

With willing suspension of the idea that this book is about anyone else, I found the many layers of myself, my ideas, my fears, and my faith in each of the characters and situations in this book. Knowing we each have these possibilities and shades of everyone portrayed in the book, I found the unfolding and sprouting up of each shift in perception to be a wonderful adventure. Even the observation of the various "ways of waiting - or not" in the line up the mountain, was a delightful depiction of the humans on a spiritual journey that we are.

I have given this book as gifts to many people, and have found that they, in turn do the same.

Enlightenment of the heaviness and enlightenment of the soul are all woven through the tapestry of this delightful and insightful book.

To the author: This and the Adventure are gifts to us. Thank you.
