Product Description

Product Description

This is a reference book which combines modern medical principles and traditional medicine into a modern philosophy of herbalism. Beginning with human pathology, this book shows how plants act on the body, and how research has demonstrated that herbs are viable medicines in today's scientific climate. A pharmacology describes the active constituents of plants, while a "materia medica" describes over 200 plants and shows how to recognize them, prepare them and use them for healing purposes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Aimed at the practioner, this is not a book of remedies., 26 Nov 1998
By A Customer
This book takes us comprehensively through the modern approach to herbal medicine. Aimed more at the practitioner than at the lay reader, it is nonetheless a useful read for anyone interested in using a naturopathic or herbal approach. Especially interesting is the section on alternative methodologies for research and why it is difficult to submit herbal and other holistic approaches to the classical double-blind trial. Worth adding to your library if you have more than a passing interesting in herbalism or indeed any other holistic approach to healing.
