5.0 out of 5 stars Torn between tradition and modernity, 15 May 2005
By A Customer
'The Manor' is a truly fantastic display of 19th Century Jewish life in Poland, written by a master story-teller. It traces the development of Calman Jacoby, a Jewish merchant and his family. Whilst Calman struggles to maintain the Jewish traditions, he finds that his increasing affluence and prosperity brings unforeseen chalenges from the modern world; a world of temptation, science and scepticism.
