5.0 out of 5 stars Still Cookin', 4 Feb 2000
By N. Bailey "nialli" (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
My first Elmore Leonard for several years and a great reminder of the master at his best. "Pronto" is classic Leonard, with a cast of characters that seem almost too real at times. The Mob hoods were straight from Channel 4's "Sopranos", whilst our hero is the last Cowboy in town. Even though seasoned Leonard fans will know to look out for the pivotal plot twist towards the end, this time round he still caught me by surprise. For those who crave more, Raylan and co return in the sequel, "Riding the Rap".

3.0 out of 5 stars A very stylish book with an average story line., 23 Jun 2000
By A Customer
Having become a fan of the film adaptations of Elmore Leonard's books I decided to read some of his other works. After I had read just a few pages I could easily see the draw and popularity of his books and why they many have been made into films. His way of writing is excellent and oozes style from every angle. The dialogue and scenes are always very stimulating; even what could easily be a dull part is creatively turned around to become something special. I thought the characters although a little shallow were well portrayed and linked together well. This made it very easy to read and I finished it in no time at all. As much as I enjoyed the way the book was written I thought that the story line was weak and unimaginative. I found this a shame, as using his prolific style it could have been so much deeper. I was also expecting a cunning twist near the end, which would have been great. I think that if the story had been stronger I would have enjoyed this book so much more. I will read another one of the author's books, but one with a stronger story to it. I wouldn't recommend this publication to anyone who had never read Elmore Leonard's books before, but if you're familiar with his work I think you will enjoy it.
