This story is the second in the Tuigan "Horsemen" trilogy, so you are dealing with a group of characters from the first-Yamun Kahan and his men and Priest-and a new set of characters introduced here, particularly a mixed-race General who is part Chin, part Horseman. He's chosen to lead the Dragon Empires armies against the invading Horsemen who have breached the Dragon Wall, but his Wife is smarter than he is and suspects that their family being moved to the Imperial Palace is more a way of ensuring her Husbands obedience to the Emperor's will than to keep them safe. Add in a traitor in the Dragon Emperor's Court, Political manouvering at the highest levels and some dissent inside the Chin army and matters are going from bad to worse for the Empire-and for it's General, in particular...
