I don't know why, but I only got around to reading this book quite recently - although I have been a fan of Morris' for years.

As ever with Jan's books you approach the older ones with some trepidation; would the age of the book take away its impact?

Well, like 'Venice', 'Spain' has been regularly revised over the years and remain as captivating as it must have been when it was first published.

As ever with Morris' books this is not a travel guide but something mixing travel literature, history, quirky memories and even a bit of mystical realism. But, again like her other books, there is nothing like it for making you actually want to visit the place !

The first page of this book lets you slip into the country without even getting out of your chair. With so much to cover, Morris guides us through Spain providing us with facts about the past and present. I particularly enjoyed reading Morris' description of the bull fight- a typically English view. With a personal view shining through allowing us to almost see through the author's eyes, I can say I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to go to Spain.
