Product Description

Product Description

Orpheus leading his beloved Eurydice back to life … Ulysses battling to resist the mesmerising Sirens’ song … The tragedy of the vengeful Medea … The timeless stories of the gods and goddesses of Greece and Rome are charged with passion and romance, magic and murder. Each one is brought to life beautifully in this lavishly illustrated edition of Thomas Bulfinch’s ‘The Age of Fable’ compiled by Bryan Holme. The narrative is clear and captivating, while the illustrations demonstrate the profound effect the myths had on the great artists of the West, via paintings and sculptures by masters from Botticelli to Picasso.

5.0 out of 5 stars Myths of Greece and Rome by Bulfinch, 2 Dec 2002
By A Customer
All our familiar favourites and not-so-well-known characters feature in this super book. It is a very good all-rounder eg you can dip-in to it, keep as a valuable reference book as it provides lots of information for study of the Arts and/or the Classics. Highly readable style if you are just plain fascinated by the Ancients or reading purely for pleasure. Lots of accompanying artwork (varied media, black and white illustrations) bring characters alive - depictions date from BC through to contemporary interpretations.
