In this American book, which of course focuses on US legislation, there is much to be learnt by the professional safety practioner of whatever nationality,

The book contains some 29 well laid out chapters covering such topics as accident losses, compensation issues, management responsibilities, to the more practical coverage of issues such as toxic materials, confined space entry and fires.

The book has some very good technical detail, such as on the control of static electricity, while also looking at such issues as human factors engineering or the 'accident prone person' there is something for all practioners or safety engineers to learn.

One useful benefit from this book from a UK perspective is that the book gives a realistic view of the subject of safety within the USA, we can take some of the lessons learnt there and apply them over here.

It is said the good safety practioners 'steals with pride', that is they take ideas from elsewhere and apply them to their own circumstances. Safety practioners do have a deserved reputation of sharing their knowledge and expertise, and this book contributes to that process, ensuring that standards are raised and if, applied, incidents fall.
