Product Description

Product Description
This is a comprehensive textbook studying the relationship between the structure and activity of the brain, and its function and behaviour. The first three chapters provide an introduction to the subject, providing background and basic knowledge of the neurophysiology and neuroanatomy of the brain. The further ten chapters cover more complex topics such as callosal syndromes, brain disorders, the emotions, the dementias, and the development, recovery and assessment of functions within neuropsychology. The final chapter will be of extensive use to both students and lecturers alike, as it contains information about a number of resources available for further knowledge of all aspects of human neuropsychology. Listed are important journals and software which can be consulted regularly, and also a section covering the Internet and neuropsychology websites. As the use of new technology grows, this chapter will be an essential resource for those studying neuropsychology. There has been an increased interest in this area recently, particularly in cognitive neuropsychology, and this text will be invaluable for a variety of biological and physiological psychology modules.

From the Back Cover

‘The book is well-written and very up-to-date; it has a readable and accessible style, with the jargon kept to a minimum. The discussion point in the assessment chapter was ingenious and stimulating.’

Dr Graham Hole, University of Sussex

Following the success of the first edition, Human Neuropsychology has been comprehensively updated to cover every major topic in the field while simultaneously introducing students to significant new developments in the area.

This book provides the perfect balance between theory and application, enabling the reader to develop a complete understanding of the subject. It is also an invaluable reference tool to aid further study.

Features

•         Incorporates chapter summaries, case studies, illustrations and examples throughout the text for clear explanation and understanding.

•         Uses photographic content to convey the science through visual examples.

•         Includes a listing of neuropsychology web resources, alongside links to relevant journals.

‘It is the only text that provides several theories on frontal lobe function and also mentions the dysexecutive syndrome. The problems associated with neuropsychological testing are well-presented. The case studies are an excellent component of the book. It brings a truly applied aspect to each chapter. I’d definitely recommend this book.’

Dr Nicola Starkey, University of Wakato

4.0 out of 5 stars Human Neuropsychology, 24 Jul 2003
By A Customer
This is a nice book, with useful overviews of various neuropsychological areas. It has come in handy for a variety of Psychology modules (at BSc level). These include Psychobiology, Psychophysiology, Psychopharmacology, Cognitive Neuropsychology and the overview required to start writing a dissertation in this area.

It enables you to read a non-jargonistic overview, before diving in to the highly jargonistic world of neuropsychological journal articles. Additionally, it gives some useful website addresses and has a comprehensive glossery.

It is a good, all round basic textbook for the neuropsychological area.
