This is a book for people who develop embedded microcontroller applications. It introduces them to the 8051 family of device--the most popular 8-bit devices on the market--and goes on to show how to use it. A specific 8051 microcontroller board is described (and is available) which can be used for many of the examples. The book assumes the reader understands elementary programming ideas.

Only Book emphasizing C
This edition is somewhat different from the first one (Programming for Multitasking) in that it puts more emphasis on hardware and assembly language. The C portion is virtually unchanged but the PL/M examples have been dropped. This book also introduces the use of a real-time clock for scheduling and includes Keil's demo compiler on CDROM. A second volume is expected out in early 1999 that focusses on hardware to attach to the microcontroller, algorithms, and the primciples of real-time operating systems/kernels.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poor, this book will not help wit C and the 8051., 26 May 2001
[This is] poor, it won't teach you about C and the 8051. The autor devoted as much time to assembly and PL/M coding as to C. Even the C code was poorly explained... lots of code with no comments to describe whats happening.

The book is disjointed in its approach and not very practical.

This is, with regret, the first poor review I have done at Amazon but the book is next to useless when compared to Myke Predko books etc.
