Product Description

This book delivers all the information and sample code Java developers need in order to integrate new Java code with native and legacy applications that utilize platform-specific features. Sun's Java Native Interface (JNI) is the first API for building Java-enabled native applications that are binary compatible across multiple Java Virtual Machines. This book covers every aspect of the JNI API from the perspective of an experienced developer. Understand data structures, the JNI's relationship to file systems, native applications and native methods; the JNI library; and class construction with JNI. Learn how to use JNI to integrate Java and C++ code, and how to provide serial I/O from Java on both POSIX and Win32 platforms. The book includes a complete JNI reference and a full chapter on debugging. It's an essential resource for all Java programmers who need to take advantage of platform-specific features.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you can do with JNI covered in this book, 12 Aug 1999
By A Customer
This is undoubtedly the best book on JNI.The author provides examples and explanation of almost anything and everything you can do with JNI.Its also an indepth coverage into the otherwise complex field of JNI.It provides simple and accurate understanding of the concepts and even tells you the commands that you have to give to your system while working on both solaris or Windows.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money, 5 Aug 1999
By A Customer
This was a very bad buy. The examples are convoluted and he makes a lot of assumptions as to what you are going to be using. He is a funny writer but that doesn't make up for the lack of clarity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff, 5 Jul 1999
By A Customer
The author has really done a great job presenting this important material.

In contrast to another reviewer's opinion, I think Mr Gordon's presentation of JNI is far clearer and more digestable than the JNI specification.

As an added bonus, his humerous writing style does much to relieve what could potentially be horribly dull.
