This is an exceptionally useful little book, and I don't hesitate recommending it.Inside are most of the basic algorithms needed for image analysis.If your doing AI most of the basic image analysis algorithms for AI are here to.The book is well laid out and compact, the algorithms are organized by general classification in a forward index and the descriptions are in alphabetical order. The descriptions and code are reasonably easy to understand and they seem to be pretty competent and trustworthy, with a few minor exeptions – The section on Huffman coding only included the compression algorithm and the C code wasn’t the best, the Huffman algorithm is not a pretty thing anyway. Saying that, this book is far better and more useful than many of the larger more expensive books on the subject.The only area the book doesn’t cover is 3D algorithms but these are usually classed in a different area in image processing anyway (it would have been nice to see a 2D to 3D convolution filter or simple 3d to 2d pipeline though).Concise and to the point this is what all science books need to be. The small size means that this book doesn’t punish people like students who might want to carry it about with them either.
