Product Description
This book is for technical professionals on IBM mainframe whose work environments and applications are moving to UNIX. The growing client/server environment has included the mainframe as a major component. UNIX is much more interactive and completely different way of thinking than the mainframe. This book is unique because it builds on existing mainframe knowledge to make the transition to UNIX.
From the Author
The book to learn UNIX by mainframe programmers...This is YAUB (Yet Another UNIX Book), but it is different from all the others - it presents UNIX by building on the existing skill set of Mainframers. Instead of just jumping into the UNIX filesystem, it compares and contrasts it with mainframe VTOC and catalog entries.
Instead of just discussing the cp, mv, and ln commands, it lists IEBGENER and ISPF 3.3 (move and copy datasets) in the table of contents, briefly shows them and then teaches the UNIX equivelents.
If you are looking for a first UNIX book, this may or may not be for you, *UNLESS* you have a mainframe background. In that case, this is definately the book for you since it builds on what you already know.
