5.0 out of 5 stars Good overview, 2 May 1999
By A Customer
I'm a finance director at a privately owned manufacturing firm. By reading this book, I was able to work with our CIO in developing the most cost efficient enterprise system for our firm. Although it may be a little too general for the techies, the book is great for managers needing guidance on their system needs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good introduction to what an EA is all about, 29 Jul 1999
By A Customer
Definitely a book to read to understand what an Enterprise architecture is and how to develop one. The book provides a step-based approach to get you to the point where a company can define its EA and how to evolve it. If you are looking for technical details you are in the wrong place. But if rather you want to understand the business benefits, then I doubt you'll find something easier to read on this subject.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good overview for non techies, 21 Jan 2004
By A. J. Gauld (Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book provides a good intro to the ZAchman framework, especially for non technical mamnagers. IT propfessionals may be left looking for more detail. The biggest weakness in the book is that it adopts an optimistic approach to enterprise architecture which reflects in some measure the view at the time it was written - Java was new, network computing was being touted as the new big thing etc. Many of those technologies made standardisation seem more imminent than it has turned out to be. While the ideals expressed are desirable the difficulties in achieving them in a modern post dot.com environment are I feel rather understated.

But this does not detract from the clear lucid description of what enterprise architecture aspires to and a general approach to achieving it.

This book provides solid presentation of the Zachman Framework and how it enables enterprise architectural development. I think it could be more concise.
