Product Description

Product Description

This text provides a clear, comprehensive presentation of both the theory and applications of mechanics of materials. The text examines the physical behaviour of materials under load, then proceeds to model this behaviour to development theory. The contents of each chapter are organized into well-defined units that allow instructors great flexibility in course emphasis. A respected instructor and prolific author, R.C. Hibbeler combines a fluid writing style, cohesive organization, and exercises, examples, and free body diagrams to help prepare tomorrow's engineers. The book contains over 1,700 homework problems depicting realistic situations students are likely to encounter as engineers. These illustrated problems are designed to stimulate student interest and enable them to reduce problems from a physical description to a model or symbolic representation to which the theoretical principles may be applied. The problems balance FPS and SI units and are arranged in an increasing order of difficulty so students can evaluate their understanding of the material.

From the Back Cover

A landmark of modern architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater is also a consummate application of mechanics of materials, combining imaginative structural design with innovative choices of materials. His use of reinforced concrete to extend the structure over the waterfall anticipated the many current applications of composite materials.

This review is from: Mechanics of Materials (Hardcover)
I've got this book for one of my classes. It is definitely very thorough with lots of examples and exercise problems! One of my more easily understood engineering books.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD, 15 Aug 2008
This review is from: Mechanics of Materials (Hardcover)
One of the best books on mechanics. I have mechanics of materials from ferdinand & beer as well and its difficult to compare which one is the best. Hibbeler's has more material ,the other has a slightly better approach for me.both great
