Product Description

Product Description
This is an introductory text to object oriented sesign using OMT and C++. The adoption of C++ as a programming language presents a number of challenges, not least to reduce the degree of freedom available to the programmer. It explores some of these difficulties and their resolutions, by imposing on the language the use of an object model. This is also expessed in the design language. LOOM which, in addition to constraining the form of the model, also removes the confusing syntax of C++. The emergence of a number of object oriented methods offers the opportunity to impose object oriented modelling and designs into the development process from the beginning, ahead of implentation concerns. LOOM reinforces the holistic nature of the object model where there is less division between the phases of the software like cycle. It also provides the balance between the power and flexibility of the C++ programming language and the control required in its usage. In this way Loom reduces the risk involved in the adoption of C++ as an implementation laguage.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good book if you are an experienced programmer, 31 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Being a student at the university where these lecturers teach, I had no choice but to buy this book, from what I gather from people I know in the programming industry it is a reasonably good book if you have a grounding in computing and programming practises. If you are looking to learn Object Oriented concepts this book will help you as long as you learn how to program first. If you are a computing student like myself and are just picking up computing and programming concepts then come back to this book after you have reached a reasonable level of competence in a programming language, preferably C++, you will need this knowledge to get the programs that rome (the modelling tool) creates to work, as it does not translate LOOM into C++ perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for learning object-oriented design., 5 Feb 2001
Great book with a object modelling tool for free. This book will give the reader a sound knowledge of object oriented design. Should be used in conjunction with a good C++ book (C++ How to Program is excellent) to learn OOD and the language.
