Product Description

For use as a capstone course text in MIS and in Management of Information Technology/Systems courses.

Dealing with the management of information technology (IT) as it is being practiced in organizations today, the emphasis of this text is on the current material that information systems executives find important; its organization is around a framework that students can understand. In this 7th edition, discussions include the rising societal risks of IT, new sections on digital convergence, messaging, and instant messaging, and a revised discussion on wireless technology. The topics of outsourcing and information security have been updated and enhanced. Information Systems Management in Practice continues to merge theory with practice through real-world case examples.

5.0 out of 5 stars The bible of IS management, 2 May 2002
By A Customer
I first read this when I was at university, and since coming back out into the commercial world I've realised what an excellent book it is. This should be mandatory reading for anybody in a decision making position, whatever industry they're in.

It clearly identifies the role of IT both historically and currently. There are also measured (and canny) observations on where to go next. True, it's written in a very academic style but this is very much a strong point as there is no waffle or wild conjecture here. The plentiful case studies are appropriate to illustrate the points being made.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for learning about IS management, 21 Aug 2002
I bought this book for my MSc in Analysis, Design and Management of Information Systems and I consider that it was extremely helpful. The chapter about the perspectives of IS and the role of the CIO are very interesting. In the chapter about Information Systems Planning, they included lots of concepts related to strategy, linking IS Planning with six different approaches/techniques: Stages of Growth, Critical Success Factors, Competitive Forces Model, Value Chain Analysis, Internet Value Matrix and Linkage Analysis Planning. The chapters about managing systems development are really instructive also. I strongly recommend the book for those IT practitioners whom are seeking a managerial position. It is very useful to managers and strategists as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book at Professional Graduate Diploma BCS, 26 Nov 2003
By Yusuf (Mauritius) - See all my reviews
I used this book at Professional Graduate Diploma British Computer Society Exams for the modules Management Information Systems and Computer Services Management. What I can say is that this book gives a really perfect idea of the above subjects and even more. An easy to read, interesting book which keeps you in context, with concrete examples and case studies.
