I program in Java for a living and I find myself referring back to topics in this book when I need a clear explanation of some of the more subtle aspects of Java. That said, as a book for beginners, and those new to the language, it provides a clear explanation of the object oriented approach to programming. Then it goes on to explain, in detail, how to write software in Java from the most simple use of a class right through to the complexities of implementing a multi-threaded web server. The prose style is conversational and difficult concepts are explained with ease. It is not tiring or dull to read, and the occasional "Light Relief" sections are just pure magic.
