About the Author

Biren Prasad, Ph.D., is a Senior Engineering Consultant at Electronic Data Systems, where he is in charge of the Automated Engineering Group at Delphi. Dr. Prasad's research interests include concurrent engineering, CAE, structures, AI, intelligent vehicle/highway systems, structural optimization, systems identification, CAD/CAM automation, and knowledge-based engineering.

He divided CE in to two wheels; the Product and Process Organisation Wheel (PPO) and the Integrated Product Development Wheel (IPD). In the centre of both there are descriptions of the 4 support elements to this methodology: models, methods, metrics and measures. Both wheels have intermediate rings that represents the teams, or the organisational structure that drives the actions inside the CE process. The first wheel (PPO) shows the factors that determine the level of complexity in process development management and some organisational factors. The second wheel (IPD) defines the integration of the product development process.
