Synopsis
This course in COBOL is intended to fill a gap in the literature for those studying COBOL for the first time. It takes an easily-understood "visual" approach from level one onwards. The author emphasizes the need for a methodological outlook and good programming style and underlines the need for an awareness of and conformity with the COBOL Standard. He satisfies the requirement for an early familiarity with the design of records, coding sheets, the use of the Editor, the creation of files, and the writing, debugging, compiling, and running of COBOL programs. The techniques described also show the importance of learning the COBOL syntax, and of designing and testing the program design before finally coding the language. Each chapter contains program examples and exercises which help the reader gain practical familiarity with the language.
