5.0 out of 5 stars The 'must have' book for XML, 4 Feb 2002
By A Customer
XML is for the naughties (00's) what HTML was for the nineties. This is the book you need for definitive guidance and coverage. XML is very important - it's had a lot of hype but the hype is coming true. If coding, you'll probably need some reference books to hand, such as O'Reilly's, but this is the book that makes sense of it all. It covers a very broad range, making it suitable for anyone seriously getting into XML and taking it to the current bleeding edge. The examples tend to be short and concise. Goldfarb is the granddaddy of XML and HTML (having 'fathered' SGML) and as such is able to make this book a real authority. Most of the chapters are 'sponsored' by various companies, an interesting technique whereby companies with particular expertise contributed much to a chapter, which is made use of by Goldberg in writing the chapter. It seems to work well - giving a reasonably uniform voice but covering more depth than any one person could hope to manage. If you have anything to do with data communications between machines, you need this.
